It would be lovely if you could just have your IT infrastructure set up according to your specifications and then left to run by itself indefinitely, but in reality, sadly, life doesn’t work like that.Īs a minimum, your IT infrastructure is going to need some level of regular care and maintenance to keep it running smoothly. IT services in Yuba City are very familiar with this arrangement.Įverything mentioned so far has essentially been about the provision of IT infrastructure. Many SMBs are choosing to use the public cloud for apps and data which are not particularly sensitive but to run their own private cloud for data and apps which require the highest levels of security. This can create something of a conundrum, although there are ways of addressing it. The main security issue with public clouds is that clients are utterly dependent on their cloud vendor to provide effective security and yet they cannot oversee their cloud vendor to ensure that this is happening (rather ironically for security reasons). This obviously has implications for security it is not, however, the main security issue with public clouds. Private clouds, by contrast, are only used by one customer. The difference between public clouds and regular managed hosting is that public clouds can, literally, be used by anyone who can afford to pay for the service (in fact some public clouds offer a certain level of free service). Technically, public clouds are a variation of the managed hosting industry. Typically, the vendor will take responsibility for everything up to and including the operating system on the servers and the client will take care of applications and data. This is then managed by the vendor according to the client’s instructions. The term managed hosting is usually used to describe an IT service through which companies can lease IT infrastructure for their sole use. The vendor has absolutely nothing to do with it (unless they also offer managed services as a separate package). You purchase, install, maintain and manage the hardware. The only real difference is that with colocation you rent a space in a building belonging to an external vendor and they ensure a supply of power and internet as well as physical security. In-house networks and colocation networks are essentially the same. The good news is that there is a wide range of IT services in Yuba City which can help to make this happen. You may not want to have an in-house IT team at all and if you do you’d probably prefer them to focus on “value-add” tasks, rather than work which is essential but not core to your business. If you’re running an SMB, the chances are that you just want your basic IT infrastructure to work without any effort on your part.
